Why I Started Soulshine Singles

When I first reentered the dating world after decades in a long-term relationship, I chose “Soulshine” as my online dating name. It felt like a promise to myself — to stay true to my spirit, to keep shining no matter what.

But wow... things had really changed.
The last time I was single, there were no cell phones, no texting, no ghosting. Online dating? It didn’t even exist. I dove into the apps, created profiles, went on dates — and while I met some interesting people, most of the time it felt like a second job. Swiping, small talk, awkward coffee dates. It was exhausting.

Eventually, I hit a wall. I realized I didn’t want to spend my limited days on this earth glued to a screen trying to “match.” I wanted to live. To do the things that light me up — like kayaking, taking nature walks, dancing to live music, hanging out near the water, and enjoying a good happy hour with friends.

When I’m doing those things, I feel like me. My heart is full, my smile is wide, and I’m just enjoying life. But the truth is, I still want a relationship. I want connection. I want someone to share those joyful, everyday moments with.

So I gave up on the apps… and out of that frustration, Soulshine Singles was born.

It’s not just about dating — it’s about meeting people through shared experiences. Making real connections while doing what you love. Finding love (and friendship!) in a more organic, meaningful way.
